Located in eastern central Africa, Rwanda is a small, landlocked country who’s geography is dominated by rugged hillsides. The country has a temperate climate which makes it suitable for farming – 75% of the land is under agricultural use. Volcanism occurs in its northwestern region on the mountainous border with DRC, but there is only 1 active volcano. Rwanda has a difficult history scarred with ethnic tensions which finally erupted in the 1994 genocide of 800,000. Today, the country is working to heal and become a model African nation and holds the achievement of first country in the world with female majority in parliament – 61%!!
