A PROVINCE is an administrative district, similar to a state in the United States.
KwaZulu-Natal is one of 9 provinces in the country of South Africa. The province takes its name from the Zulu Kingdom and the former British colony of Natal.
The Zulu Kingdom has a king, his name is Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu. He has 6 wives. Every year he holds a Reed Dance to encourage young girls to be safe with their bodies.
The warm waters of the INDIAN OCEAN lap against the shores of KwaZulu-Natal. There are many coral reefs and colorful fish that swim in these waters. You can snorkel and scuba dive to see the fish.
There are many NATIVE PLANTS in the KwaZulu-Natal province, including the Natal Fig Tree which originally grows in this region. The tree has very large roots, can grow very big, and provides a lot of shade.
LIFE IN KZN – Many of the roads are not paved, they are dirt. All of the children wear uniforms to school. Below children are planting a tree at their school.
There are many PARKS in KwaZulu-Natal that conserve animals and the land where they live. These natural areas are important to save for future generations. The upcoming lessons will cover some of the parks in KwaZulu-Natal.
